Pretty Uglies (series 2)

This project which is an extension of The Pretty Uglies (series 1) explores the deconstruction and reconstruction of the human body through collage, drawing primarily on imagery sourced from physical media such as magazines. In which i have sourced from women’s fashion magazines as well as Play boy magazines. Using the process of scanning the cutouts and then photomontage, the work reimagines collage. Fragments of bodies originally presented as desirable are cut, displaced, and recombined into grotesque, hybrid figures. by scanning each individual cutout you can re use different body parts in the collage to make the collages connected and feel like a series's.

Through this transformation, the  work interrogates beauty standards, consumer imagery, and the manipulation of the human form within visual culture. Ultimately, the project positions collage as both a disruptive and reflective practice, one that reveals the tensions between desire, identity, and representation.
